The above quote, relayed to Lucas Olivet by Prince George resident Randy Dakota, was the inspiration for the title of this book which is centered around the capital of northern BC: the title a testimony, a tribute, a prayer.
Featuring an essay by Lauren Haddad, ‘Medicine Tree’ offers a lyrical and tense reflection on a region at once wild and poisoned by industry, unknown to the majority of Vancouverites, by passed by tourists, silently servicing the country’s (Canada, the US, China, pick one) pulp and paper needs.
Dakota, standing in the gravel next to his trailer, was referring to a black spruce sticky with resin.

“Non ho mai visto un albero produrre così tanti medicamenti. Forse piange così tanto per tutto il veleno che c’è qui.”

La citazione sopra, riferita all’artista Lucas Olivet da Randy Dakota, residente a Prince George (Canada), è stata l’ispirazione per il titolo di questo libro che è incentrato sulla capitale del nord della Columbia Britannica.
Il titolo è una testimonianza, un tributo, una preghiera.
“Medicine Tree” offre una riflessione lirica e cupa su una regione allo stesso tempo selvaggia e avvelenata dall’industria, sconosciuta alla maggior parte degli abitanti di Vancouver, evitata dai turisti, al servizio silenzioso di svariati paesi (Canada, Usa, Cina) per le loro esigenze di legname e carta.
Dakota, in piedi sulla ghiaia accanto alla sua roulotte, si riferiva a un abete nero appiccicoso di resina.
