COMMON NAME

COMMON NAME is a New York-based graphic design studio focusing on print, interactive, identity, and exhibition work for art, architecture, culture, and education.

YOONJAI CHOI is a graphic designer and partner at Common Name. She teaches Typography and Design at Columbia GSAPP and Graphic Narratives at Harvard GSD, and has been a visiting critic at Yale, Parsons, Pratt, Syracuse, Fordham, and Rutgers. Prior to co-founding the studio, Yoonjai held a director position at New York design studio 2×4 for several years. She received her BFA in visual communications from Hongik University in Seoul, and an MFA in graphic design from Yale University.

 KEN MEIER is a graphic designer and partner at Common Name. He teaches Core Lab Typography and Advanced Typography at Parsons, and has been a visiting critic at Yale, Columbia, Syracuse, Fordham, and Rutgers. Prior to co-founding the studio, Ken worked with international design consultancy IDEO and New York’s Project Projects. His work has been published by Unit Editions, Graphic, Creative Review, Computer Arts, idN, Print, and the Type Directors Club. He received his BA in humanities from the University of Chicago and an MFA in graphic design from Yale University.
